Recently, the 16th China Bio-Industry Convention, themed "Building a New Biomanufacturing Industry and Opening New Tracks in Life Sciences," was held at Guangzhou International Bio Island. As a key event of the convention, the 2024 Biomanufacturing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition—themed "Biomanufacturing: Innovating to Lead the Future"—conducted an open selection process for innovative projects from enterprises and entrepreneurial teams worldwide. The initiative aimed to drive technological innovation in biomanufacturing and promote the deep integration of industry, academia, and research.

On September 18, the Global Finals of the 2024 Biomanufacturing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition took place at Guangzhou International Bio Island. Following preliminary rounds, twenty innovative teams and projects from home and abroad qualified for the global finals.

At the finals, the twenty teams took turns showcasing their innovative achievements and creative insights, covering cutting-edge fields such as biopharmaceuticals, genetic engineering, and synthetic biology. The participating teams comprised not only faculty and students from top institutions—including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, MIT, Harvard, Tsinghua University, and Harbin Institute of Technology—but also professionals from renowned enterprises and the capital market, such as Pfizer, WuXi AppTec, CITIC Securities, and GF Securities. This blend of deep scientific expertise and extensive industry experience is driving the rapid development and transformation of the biomanufacturing sector.

The "Novel Synthetic Peptide GnRH-Blocking Vaccine for Dogs and Cats"—developed and submitted jointly by Zhengye Bio and its strategic partner Chongqing Gesheng Bio—won the Excellence Award at the Global Finals of the 2024 Biomanufacturing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. By specifically targeting and blocking the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis to inhibit gonadal development and achieve "immunological castration," this vaccine serves as an effective alternative to traditional surgical neutering. It successfully suppresses estrus in a non-invasive, painless, and reversible manner—without compromising future reproductive capability—and the core technology has been granted a national invention patent.
